Wine and What?

I've recently discovered the best olive in the world!  That probably sounds like a big claim, but it's true, honestly.  Since I discovered these Mezzetta Napa Valley garlic stuffed olives in Chardonnay and herbs my life has been transformed.   Okay, that part is an exaggeration.

I got these in a gift basket for Christmas and am I glad I finally got the urge to try them.  The garlic adds a glorious crunch and the herb flavor really comes through, where the wine and garlic are not nearly as distinctive as I expected.  Truly wonderful.  I found them at Safeway and bought 4 jars plus one more jar of the jalapeno stuffed olives.  Now I just need to find the olives stuffed with almonds - cool! 

Chowing on Chile Rellenos

I love Mexican food!  Enchiladas to tamales to refried beans.  It's all good.  So when I came across a bin of glossy deep green poblanos the other day "Chile Rellenos" popped into my head.

Using a few recipes from a long ago shelved Chile Pepper magazine and some ideas of my own I put together these beefy peppers.  I didn't have any Mexican cheeses on hand, so I used a heap of mozza and some creamy Greek feta which worked out great.  So they were Mexiterranean really - whatever they were good.   The rice however, wasn't something I'd make again.

Chorizo sausage would make a great filling for these peppers too.  Boca Loca has a yummy wine chorizo that I'll pick up for next time, plus I love going to the store and browsing through the loads of different dried peppers, salsas and homemade goodies.  Maybe I'll buy the tortilla press at the same time.  :)

New Puppy

What a cutie.

Her name is Jade and she's at least part of the reason I've been absent of late.  I've been spending more time on her food lately than mine, which hardly seems fair.  But then again, she's just so darn cute.
